Huawei CFO, daughter of Huawei Founder, arrested in Canada
Huawei CFO, Meng Wanzhou, the Chief Financial Officer of Huawei and daughter of Founder Ren Zhengfei, has been arrested in Canada, reportedly on suspicion that she violated US trade sanctions. This comes after US President Donald Trump signed a bill that would ban government agencies from using several Huawei products. Meng is being sought for extradition by the US, Canada said.
The arrest comes at a sensitive time for US-China relations. The nations are engaged in a trade war that has seen both impose duties of billions of dollars on one another’s goods.
The arrest will not help the 90-day tariff truce the nations agreed after President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping met at the G20.
